He is Professor of Materials Science & Metals Physics (Dpt.), Doctor of physical-mathematical sciences. He is the member of the Scientific Doctoral Thesis Council within the I.P. Bardin TsNIIChermet. An official expert (referee) on the research projects (competitions) of the Russian Foundation of Basic Research. From 1996 through 1998, he had worked as a chief researcher-analyst, a professor in the A.A.Baikov Institute of Metallurgy & Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. From September 29, 2003, through September 29, 2004, Yu.S. Nechaev had been a visiting professor-researcher at the Clean Energy Research Institute (University of Miami, FL, USA), working on the Fulbright grant project “Physical-chemical foundations and perspectives of using novel carbon-based nanomaterials for the hydrogen on-board storageâ€; the host professor - T.N. Veziroglu, President of the Intern. Association for Hydrogen Energy. From 1998 through nowadays, he has worked as a chief researcher-analyst, a professor in the G.V. Kurdjumov Institute of Metals Science & Metal Physics, within “I.P. Bardin TsNIIChermetâ€, Moscow.
Physical chemistry of materials and nanomaterials, the condensed hydrogen storage in carbonaceous nanostructures, the graphene/graphane problem, the problem of metal-hydrogen compatibility, the high-density (megabar) hydrogen carrier.
